Mermaids-Pink Flower Indigenous Print and Leather Shoulder Bag - Large

Regular price $89.00

A stylish and very limited handmade shoulder bag with a vibrant hand screen print artwork by Aboriginal artist Kieren Karritpul of Merrepen Arts. The fabric was hand screen-printed by Publisher Textiles in Leichhardt.

Kieren is a very talented young Aboriginal artist, his work is collections such as The National Gallery of Australia, Myer Collection and Artbank.  I love the colours in this print, and by turning it into a contemporary and beautifully handcrafted shoulder bag, it's an artwork that can be worn; the larger size makes it very practical for throwing things in through the day.

Some info on Kieren:

Kieren Karritpul is a Ngen’gi wumirri artist from Nauiyu Nambiyu, Daly River, approximately three hours south-west of Darwin, NT. Karritpul comes from a long line of recognised artists with his mother, Patricia Marrfurra, older brother, Aaron McTaggart, and aunties all engaged in active arts practice. Working across the mediums of painting and textile design, Karritpul’s depictions of traditional weavings, fish nets and stories of country honour his ancestors and their teachings, and demonstrate the way he maintains these strong cultural connections in daily life.

The strap is hand-cut leather, with tan brown leather back and  top-stitched detail. Midnight blue silk lining with handy inner pocket.  The strap can unclip, transforming it into a clutch.

Adorned with a quality rust coloured Riri metal zipper.

Size: 29cm x 22cm

All bags are scotch-guarded.
