Billabong Indigenous Print and Leather Shoulder Bag - Large
A beautiful and limited hand crafted shoulder bag with a vibrant hand screen print artwork by Aboriginal artist Christina Yambeing of Merrepen Arts. The fabric was hand screen-printed by Publisher Textiles in Leichhardt.
This print depicts flowers and plants around a billabong near where she lives, during the dry season.
I love these colours, and it's a very modern yet delicate piece of Aboriginal art. I've just noticed the cracks in the dry brown earth!
Christina is a senior painter in the community. She takes a conceptual approach to her work. She will focus on topics like bits of the river, the mud or the flood. She has done detailed fabric print works. She is famous for her design about the Boxing Day flood. Prints of this design are very popular. Christina can tell you the name of everyone who features in that design. Christina’s fabric designs are included in collections like the Powerhouse Museum National Gallery of Australia and North Territory Government collection.
The strap is hand-cut leather, with soft brown/grey leather back and top-stitched detail. Silk lining with handy inner leather 'Australiana' kitsch pocket. Adorned with a quality gold coloured YKK metal zipper.
